Twenty-Five Consecutive Cases of Operation for Perforated Gastric and Duodenal Ulcers

چکیده
SIMPLE gastric ulcer occasionally progresses without causing any inconvenience to the patient, who may be in apparently good health, until the rude awaking due to perforation indicates the serious nature of his malady. The diagnosis of perforation is generally sufficiently obvious, and there are definite sign5 and symptoms which lead one to a correct diagnosis. ^ history of indigestion can usually be obtained, either of recent date and comparatively mild, or of long duration and ofte'1 intermittent. Simultaneous perforation of benign gastric and duodenal ulcers.
Finney (I900) stated that in 20 per cent. of patients with a perforated peptic ulcer, more than one perforation occurred. Fifty years later Aird gives a figure of less than I per cent.; both report multiple perforations of a single large ulcer. Yet, while every volume of the 'Index Medicus' contains hundreds of references to peptic ulceration, reports of double perforations are rare. Masson and...
متن کاملA Case of Perforated Duodenal Ulcer in an Infant.
The following case of perforated duodenal ulcer in an infant is reported, not only on account of the raritv of the condition, but also because the symptoms and course presented differ somewhat from those in previouslv reported cases. Peptic ulcers are evidently not very rare in infants under one year of age, but onlv a few have been recorded in England. In Welch's1 collection of 6074 cases of p...

The ingestion of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) in 272 patients with bleeding or perforated peptic ulcer was compared with 272 age/sex matched controls. A significantly higher proportion of patients with gastric ulcers had received NSAID than those with duodenal ulcers. Twelve of 90 (13%) patients admitted with bleeding duodenal ulcers had received NSAID compared with 11 of 26 (4...
متن کاملIncidence of perforated duodenal and gastric ulcer in Oxford.
The population incidence of perforated gastric and duodenal ulcer has been the subject of several studies (Illingworth, Scott, and Jamieson, 1944; Jamieson, 1955; Pulvertaft, 1959; Weir, 1960). Although some concerned 'peptic ulcer' incidence it is clear that gastric and duodenal ulcer perforation rates should be considered separately because the incidence of the two lesions differs (Jennings, ...
متن کاملDiagnosis and Management of Perforated Duodenal Ulcers following Roux-En-Y Gastric Bypass: A Report of Two Cases and a Review of the Literature
Perforated duodenal ulcers are rare complications seen after roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGP). They often present as a diagnostic dilemma as they rarely present with pneumoperitoneum on radiologic evaluation. There is no consensus as to the pathophysiology of these ulcers; however expeditious treatment is necessary. We present two patients with perforated duodenal ulcers and a distant history of...
